Hyderabad, India, February 10, 2023– NASSCOM held a panel discussion on the democratization of software development using low-code and no-code (LCNC) technology. These tools have gained worldwide recognition for their ability to simplify software development, and the panel examined how LCNC is reshaping software development by enabling new capabilities with less reliance on developers. Quixy, a prominent No-Code technology platform based in Hyderabad, was invited to share expertise on the emergence of citizen development and dispel any misconceptions surrounding this innovative technology.
Siddhartha Mohanty, co-founder and CTO of ARETEANS, Manne V. Chowdary, founder and CEO of AmpleLogic, and Guruprasad Pammi, Head of Customer Success at Quixy, had an insightful discussion. All three have over a decade of experience in the industry.
Siddhartha Mohanty shared essential aspects of LCNC, including industry adoption, players, challenges, and design paradigms. He also recounted his experience with LCNC, where he was asked to build an app with insufficient budget and time, leading him to discover LCNC and build the app.
Siddhartha stated, “Return on investment including time and cost is a big factor in LCNC, where an app that costs 3-4 Lacs and three months can be developed in 20 days, while the IT team costs just 10% of what you would pay. Of course, there are changes, approvals, disapprovals, etc. Clients are always challenging, but that’s what life is all about?”
Mr Siddhartha invited Mr Manne and Mr Guruprasad to share their insights, which proved to be engaging and enlightening. When introducing himself, Mr Manne mentioned that AmpleLogic is not entirely LCNC but takes pride in being 90% LCNC. When asked about his perspective on layoffs in the IT industry, Mr Manne emphasized the importance of training employees in problem-solving skills and design thinking. He cited examples of freshers with little experience who could handle multiple projects due to their passion and skills. Mr Manne also emphasized the need to adapt and deliver as per business requirements, as they keep changing their models to seek something new.
Mr Guruprasad said, “Citizen development refers to the concept of enabling non-professional programmers or ordinary people to build software and fulfil their requirements, usually through a low-code or no-code approach,” He also noted, “However, security is crucial; they must recognize their abilities and what they can create, and we must monitor that as well.”
Mr Siddharth discussed the adaptation and limitations of LCNC in the industry, stating that “it’s important for businesses to understand the limitations of LCNC. People can sometimes go outside of the box and fail, so we have to understand where to stop, what works and what does not work.”
Mr Guruprasad shared his life experience as head of customer success at Quixy, stating, “Even a global food company was unsure about certain things. So, it was a trial period where our team built an app and delivered it to the company, ensuring their needs & deliverables’ alignment.” He continued, “Sometimes, even businesses are unsure about certain things, and that’s why change is important; we need to keep evolving.“
Manne V. Chowdary said, “I want IT companies to adopt LCNC, and I would love to see young entrepreneurs reap the benefits.” Additionally, I believe individuals must be aware of LCNC’s limitations, the areas in which it is effective and ineffective, and its boundaries and restrictions.
Mr Guruprasad, on the other hand, emphasized the need for at least four out of every six professionals to be trained in LCNC and for the industry to be aware of its rapid growth.
